"For several years my work has had me in towns all across our great nation both big and small. I love barbecue and often enjoy hearing my contacts in southern states brag about how their state features the best barbecue anywhere. But now I have a place that gives them a run for their money near my home state of Michigan that rivals all of theirs: Briquettes Smokehouse in Ashtabula, Ohio. Though I've only been there once, and for lunch, I ordered my boilerplate choice of a pulled pork sandwich. My sides of choice were the pork and beans and coleslaw. All were mouthwateringly exquisite. My sauce of choice was the hot and spicy. My children sometimes joke that I eat jalapeños for breakfast, and actually they are right. Yet this sauce -- though not too hot for me, had my nose running by the end of my lunch. Fortunately I was eating alone. That is a sign of a great spicy sauce!
I came to Ashtabula this time on work, but I'd come back for Briquettes. Bravo Briquettes! And congratulations Ashtabula for having such a gem of an eatery in your midst!"

"I like good food. I love the amazing food at Briquettes Smokehouse. Incredible taste at ridiculous prices. I've had lamb prepared many different ways, but the lamb shank blows the competition away. My only regret was not being able to sample the smoked prime rib. What a unique experience!"

"My wife & I, guests of my niece & her family, had dinner Saturday night. Briquettes is my kind of place. Nice atmosphere, excellent food & a very nice selection of unique craft beers. We lived in N. Carolina for many years and learned about and came to appreciate good BBQ. Briquettes meats are smoked to perfection, great portions and great prices. The owner came out to our table and spent some time with us explaining their smoking process. We will be back."
